Mixophyes iteratus - Giant Barred Frog
The Giant Barred Frog (Mixophyes iteratus) is Australia's largest ground-dwelling frog. Though these frogs are endangered, only a small amount of their habitat is protected in national parks or nature reserves. Thus habitat destruction is a very real threat to these frogs, which generally inhabit lowland streams. Lowland Australian streams are often used by cattle, which can destroy streamside vegetation the frogs depend on, and also negatively affect water quality.
I found this frog at the Boardinghouse Dam in the New South Wales hinterland.
