Do you love frogs? Why not get your whole school to help SAVE THE FROGS! We have some ideas for you below. If you get your school involved, or get an article written about SAVE THE FROGS!, please let us know and we can mention you or your school on this page.

Save The Frogs Day is April 29th 2011 - Get Involved!

In an effort to raise awareness for amphibian conservation efforts, scientists have declared April 29th, 2011 Save The Frogs Day. Get your classes involved! Please tell your teachers and classmates! Set up a SAVE THE FROGS! informational table and help spread the word, or give a talk on frog extinctions to your class on Save The Frogs Day. If you do something, please be sure to register your event!

Want to help get your school involved?

A great way to help is to ask your science teacher to look at the SAVE THE FROGS! teacher's webpage. You and your teacher should work together to plan a Save The Frogs Day class (April 30th, 2010) where you all can talk about why frogs are going extinct and what the class can do to help reverse this. We will help you with handouts for the class and provide ideas on how the class can participate.

Join SAVE THE FROGS!

Certificate recognizing you as a Member of SAVE THE FROGS! Plus you'll be helping us protect frog populations!

Start a Save The Frogs Chapter at your school

Contact your Student Guild, Student Union, or principal and ask them what is required to get an official Save The Frogs Chapter going. Ask also if they would provide funding. Your school likely has plenty of people interested enough in frogs to get a productive group going. Be sure to contact us if you plan to start a Chapter.

Chapter ideas:
- Hold a fundraiser
- Hold an educational event
- Get a restaurant in your area to stop serving frog legs.
- Get your mayor to legally recognize Save The Frogs Day in your city.
- Get your local school board to ban frog dissections.
- Get Brookstone to stop selling frog-o-spheres.
- Live in Florida? Bring an end to the Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival.

Talk to your classmates!

Teachers love it when student stake initiative. Ask your teacher for permission to give a 3-minute talk on amphibian extinctions to your class. At the start of class, stand up, say a few words about frog extinctions and Save The Frogs, and then say you're passing around a Save The Frogs mailing list sign up sheet and everyone should please put down their email so they can keep up to date on ways they can help save amphibians from extinction. Ask them to write clearly! Then scan the sheets and email them to us, or mail them to us. Here's our address. If you are starting a Save The Frogs Chapter, ask everyone who wants to join to write down their name and contact info.

Spread The Word!

We have an entire webpage devoted to ways you can help spread the word about the amphibian extinction crisis. Remember that only a small proportion of our public is aware that frogs are disappearing, and that amphibian conservation efforts will not be successful until amphibian declines are common knowledge: think of how long it has taken for any political action on global warming to occur! Politicians rarely act until the public demands action. Our goal is to make the amphibian extinction crisis common knowledge by 2010: help make it happen! Our Spread The Word page offers you a multitude of ways to help educate the public about the largest mass extinction event in 65 million years.

SAVE THE FROGS! Frog Art & Frog Poetry Contests

Please tell your friends and teachers about the SAVE THE FROGS! Frog Art Contest and concurrent 1st Annual SAVE THE FROGS! Poetry Contest. There will be cash prizes, and the finest poetry and artwork will be included in the book of Frog Poems & Frog Art that gets published as a result. The book will be distributed worldwide, with all proceeds going to SAVE THE FROGS! amphibian conservation projects. Please post this flyer up around your school.

Have a fundraiser

Have a fundraiser for SAVE THE FROGS!. Each year, we will thank the school that raised the most money for SAVE THE FROGS! by acknowledging their contribution at the top of the Students for Frogs web page for an entire year. Remember that even loose change adds up!

Here are a few thoughts on ways to raise money: (1) collect money from parents or team members' parents. Provide students some incentive, maybe a free Frogs of Australia poster or 100% organic cotton SAVE THE FROGS! t-shirt for whoever collects the most money; (2) have a bake sale or a raffle (if you want to sell cookies, or cookie dough, Otis Spunkmeyer, Five Star Fundraising, The Goodies Factory and Just Fundraising can help); (3) get your parents to collect money at their workplaces; (4) start a SAVE THE FROGS! Chapter at your school, and sell SAVE THE FROGS! bumper stickers, t-shirts, pins, wristbands that we may be able to provide you.

Students help save frogs - Litoria revelata If your school donates $2,000 or higher, SAVE THE FROGS! can create an Amphibian Conservation Award in the name of your school, i.e. the Johnson Middle School Award for Amphibian Conservation. You can find details on our Donations and Awards pages. If you contact the local paper/tv station it would make a good story, be fun for students, and serve as good advertisement for SAVE THE FROGS!.

Are our educational frog posters in your school?

What better way to educate your classmates about frogs than to have one of our Frogs of Australia posters hanging in your science classroom? Talk to your science teacher about getting one. Even better, with some group effort you can probably convince your school board to purchase a poster for every school in your county or state (this makes a good group project)! Remember that proceeds from poster sales go to SAVE THE FROGS! amphibian conservation projects.

Here's what to do: write a paragraph about why frogs are important, and why schools should have the poster up on their science clasroom walls. Send the list to your local school or state school board. Make sure you tell them that the poster is available at the SAVE THE FROGS! webpage http://savethefrogs.com/gifts and that they can get a discount if they buy in bulk.

Get important frog habitat protected

Treefrogs You could also collect signatures for a petition and send it to your local legislators, convincing them to permanently protect a pond or stream that serves as important frog habitat. Make sure to let your legislator know that it would help not only frogs, but also their environmental record (which is important to voters), and that it would make a good story in the local newspaper. Also, be sure to inform your legislator that SAVE THE FROGS! may be able to certify them "Frog-Friendly" (they can learn more on our Politicians for Frogs page).You can contact your local herpetological society to to see if they know of any frog habitats that are in need of protection.

Build a frog pond at your school

If every school had a frog pond we would have a lot more frogs! Get some pond-building tips here. Building a frog pond gets a lot of students involved, and makes for a good news story that your local paper or television station would be sure to cover.

Make a video for YouTube

Why not make a video that the whole world can see? It makes a good class project, and lots of viewers can watch it and learn about frogs once you post it to YouTube.

Write an article on frog declines for your newspaper

Or if you have film-making skills why not make a short commercial or story and see if your local station will air it? Make sure to mention that people can donate to SAVE THE FROGS! and find other ways to help at www.savethefrogs.com.
