The SAVE THE FROGS! website is the world’s top source of amphibian conservation information and inspiration. Since 2008, savethefrogs.com has reached over 3,000,000 unique visitors. The site has over 1,000 pages of original content, providing important information to environmentally-minded citizens worldwide.

The goal of the SAVE THE FROGS! website is to serve as a platform that connects, inspires, educates and empowers teachers, students, scientists, naturalists and environmentalists. That’s where you, the contributor, come in. We seek talented writers to help us deliver a constant stream of knowledge, expertise, success, and inspiration to the public. When you contribute your best writing to SAVE THE FROGS!, you will have the chance to reach amphibian lovers worldwide and empower millions of citizens over the next decade.

Anyone is eligible to submit articles or images for publication, regardless of occupation, age, ethnicity or geographical location. Due to the our high standards, we are unable to publish all submissions. SAVE THE FROGS! accepts article submissions year round.

Please read carefully through this entire webpage prior to submitting an article. If you do not follow the guidelines below, your articles has a high chance of NOT ending up on the SAVE THE FROGS! website. If you do follow all the guidelines below, you significantly increase your chance of success…and the number of frogs you will save.

Types Of Content We Seek

We are open to any type of original content that furthers our amphibious mission. Here are some types of content that we seek:

  • Conservation Stories:
    • Did you or someone you know do something significant to assist amphibians? Tell us about it!
  • Stories From The Field:
    • Do you spend time in the field with amphibians? Tell us about an interesting experience. For example, where is your favorite place to find amphibians? What did you find?
  • How To Help Amphibians:
    • Focus on one threat to an amphibian and specific ways people can help.
  • Scientific Information:
    • Do you have cool frog facts or any other interesting info to share, written in a way that the public can understand and enjoy? If so, please send it in.
  • Interviews:
    • If you know someone who is doing great work for the environment, interview them and share their best answers with us.
  • Research Discovery or Summary:
    • Write an article summarizing and citing peer-reviewed studies and emphasize what it means for the future of amphibian conservation.
  • Fundraiser Spotlight:
    • Do you think you should be recognized for the money you have raised for the frogs? Or do you want to write about someone you know who successfully fundraised for amphibian conservation? Summarize your accomplishments and let’s recognize your achievement and inspire others to follow in your footsteps.
  • Call To Action / Threat Report:
    • Are there amphibians in your region under threat? Perhaps you know of an opportunity for the public to submit comments related to a potential project that may harm amphibians. Tell us about it and enlist the support of fellow SAVE THE FROGS! supporters.
  • Legislative Updates:
    • Do you know of a new law enacted that brings hope or threat to amphibians? Give us the scoop!

     

Guidelines for Contributing Authors

  • BE CONCISE
    • Don’t ramble.
  • AVOID ERRORS
    • Avoid spelling errors and grammatical errors.
  • USE CORRECT ENGLISH
    • If you are not a native English speaker, find a proofreader or a friend with excellent English to review your article prior to submission. If you send us an article with a multitude of errors, frogs will quite possibly die during the time we are forced to spend correcting your errors — and you don’t want that do you?
  • ARTICLE LENGTH
    • Your articles can be anywhere from a single paragraph up to 600 words. If you have written for us before, you may be invited to write a longer piece.
  • PARAGRAPH LENGTH
    • Keep your paragraphs short. Each paragraph should be two to six sentences, with the occasional exception. Paragraphs group related information; a new paragraph generally signifies a new thought or topic.
  • AMPHIBIAN NAMES:
  • LINKS:
    • Include links in your article by enclosing the URL in arrows after the text you want linked.
    • For example: Please go to the SAVE THE FROGS! website <www.savethefrogs.com> for more information.
  • CALL TO ACTION:
    • If it was important enough for you to write about, then it should be important enough to provide the reader a call to action at the end of the article.
    • As such, try to end your article with a link to the most relevant page on the SAVE THE FROGS! website or elsewhere in cyberspace.
  • RELATED WEBPAGES:
    • If a page exists on the SAVE THE FROGS! website related to something you are discussing, try to provide the link, as we like to encourage people to visit multiple pages on our site.

     

Photos, Videos, PDFs

  • WE LIKE PHOTOS, PDFs and VIDEOS
    • We strongly encourage you to send in relevant photos, PDF’s and/or videos with your articles.
    • Send an amazing photo of an amphibian or a photo of people in action saving frogs.
    • We love frog art images as well.
    • We are happy to embed relevant YouTube videos (especially if they don’t have ads at the start).
    • If you have a PDF that we are allowed to post, you are welcome to include it.
  • HIGH-RESOLUTION PHOTOS
    • Submit your highest resolution photo.
  • YOU MUST OWN THE RIGHT TO THE PHOTOS YOU SUBMIT OR PROVIDE EXPLICIT PERMISSION FOR THEIR USE
    • Do not submit photos for which you are not the rightful owner unless you have explicitly permission granting SAVE THE FROGS! publication permission.
  • ONE PHOTO PER PARAGRAPH
    • Aim for one photo/image per paragraph of your article. We place photos after their most relevant paragraph.
  • FILENAMES
    • Please name your photo/image file correctly.
    • lowercase (NOT-Uppercase)
    • no spaces (spaces&end%up&like%this&on$the&internet)
    • Use dashes (-) between words rather than underscores (_)
    • Filenames format for amphibians: speciesname-commonname-location-photographer.jpg
    • Example: rana-boylii-foothill-yellow-legged-frog-sunol-creek-usa-kerry-kriger.jpg
    • the common name is optional
    • include country name if known
    • if you don’t know the species name or the location, just leave it out and use a filename that is descriptive, such as: frogs-mating-john-smith.jpg
  • CAPTIONS:
    • Every photo should have an associated caption that states some relevant information, such as:
    • What is the species?
    • Where was it found?
    • Any interesting facts related to the photo?
    • Where and what are the people in the photo doing?
    • Who is in the photo?

  • TELL US WHERE EACH PHOTO & CAPTION BELONGS
    • If you want a photo of yours included after a specific paragraph, then AFTER that paragraph you need to write:
    • PHOTO: filename
      CAPTION: your caption
    • Example:
      PHOTO: frogging-at-wild-basin.jpg
      CAPTION: On April 12, 2016, we went frogging at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve and saw a Spring Peeper (Pseudacris crucifer).
  • VIDEOS
    • If you want a video embedded in your article, include the YouTube URL.
    • If the video is not on YouTube, we have a low chance of embedding it (you can always link to a non-Youtube video following the linking instructions above).
    • In your article, after the relevant paragraph, write VIDEO followed by the URL. For example:
      VIDEO: www.youtube.com/erTYu6KL
  • NO PHOTOS?
    • No problem. If you do not have any quality photos, that is fine; we will add our own if your article is accepted (or if yours are not deemed to be high quality).

     

Terms & Conditions (The Fine Print)

  • EDITING PROCESS
    • SAVE THE FROGS! reserves the right to edit your submission as deemed necessary to maintain the website’s integrity.
    • We cannot publish every article submitted to us, so please only submit your finest writing.
    • It is routine that we request a revision of your first draft.
    • We may edit and publish your submission without contacting you.
    • We will shorten your piece if necessary.
    • We encourage you to be available for editing and questions, responding quickly if we request edits or other information.
  • COMPENSATION
    • Contributors submit their article on a volunteer basis and will not receive monetary compensation.
    • By contributing to SAVE THE FROGS! Magazine, you support our mission to protect amphibian populations and to promote a society that respects and appreciates nature and wildlife.
    • Your primary reward is editorial guidance, review, helping an important cause, and gaining international exposure for your work.
  • PUBLICATION RIGHTS
    • By submitting images or text to be used on the website, you give SAVE THE FROGS! the right to publish your article and any supporting material (e.g. images) on the web or in print.
    • You retain the right to use your writing or images wherever and however you like.

(3) Attach your files to the email (DO NOT EMBED YOUR PHOTOS WITHIN THE EMAIL).
(4) Do not send more than 20MB of files in a single email.
(5) Do not include any questions in your email: the address is solely for receiving files.
