Event Details
The Isabela Foundation is hosting a Save The Frogs Day event for the students of the Madhabkunda Pan Punji Nongovernment Primary School and any local attendees of Dhaka, Bangladesh on April 30, 2022.
Bangladesh has a rich biological heritage. Geographically, the country falls within the Indo-Malayan realm and is located near the western edge of the Indo-Burma, known as one of the global biodiversity hot-spots (Champion and Seth 1968). Based on bio-physical parameters, Bangladesh is divided into 12 bio-ecological zones. Despite its small area, the country has many types of forests – tropical moist, tropical evergreen and several other less-extensive forest types and wetlands . Variations of forests and land types provide suitable habitats to many amphibian species. According to the IUCN Bangladesh (2015), the amphibian fauna of Bangladesh includes at least 49 species, which was recently increased up to 52 species. Many habitat types are still unexplored. We need to establish long term amphibian expedition projects to explore the unexplored amphibians and to protect them from extinction.
We are planning three consecutive events for our Save The Frogs Day celebration. The first one is the school awareness-raising program. The program is divided into three parts. First a Rally, Art Competition, and Presentation. The second event is a workshop program in the university, which includes an open discussion. And the final one is an ecotour. We are targeting around 300 participants.
We love to work with school students, as they are the future generation. Our world is changing rapidly and to keep pace with these changes, we have to prepare our next generation to be ready to take on any challenges the biodiversity conservation throws at them in the coming years. This will ensure that the students receive the knowledge that is needed to succeed in the biodiversity conservation of tomorrow.
