Frog March Unites Defenders Of Democracy and the Environment at Lincoln Memorial
Democracy And Amphibian Conservation Converge At Lincoln Memorial
WASHINGTON, D.C. — November 18, 2025 — On Saturday, November 15th, 2025, SAVE THE FROGS! successfully held the inaugural Million Frog March, a peaceful gathering that brought together frog enthusiasts, environmental activists, and democracy advocates from across the nation at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
The two-hour event featured speeches, poetry, and creative demonstrations emphasizing the critical connection between healthy democracies and healthy ecosystems. Participants arrived in frog and axolotl costumes, carried colorful signs bridging conservation and democratic themes, and engaged curious tourists in conversations about amphibian conservation.
The march addressed dual crises facing our nation and planet: amphibians worldwide are disappearing at alarming rates due to habitat destruction, pesticides, climate change, and over-harvesting for the pet and food trades, while democracy and the institutions that uphold it face unprecedented threats in the United States. The Million Frog March asserted that these challenges are fundamentally connected – healthy ecosystems require healthy democracies, and both demand our active defense.
“Today we declared that we’d rather croak than be silenced,” said SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger, who delivered the keynote address. “This march demonstrated that protecting our planet’s biodiversity and protecting our democratic freedoms are inseparable causes. The enthusiasm and creativity our participants brought today exceeded all expectations.”
BUILDING A MOVEMENT
The Million Frog March represents the beginning of a sustained movement connecting environmental protection with democratic values. The next Million Frog March will take place Saturday April 25th, 2026 and SAVE THE FROGS! continues to welcome coalition partners and endorsements from organizations committed to defending democracy, freedom of speech, environmental protection, and amphibian conservation.
“This is just the beginning,” Dr. Kriger added. “We’re building something lasting – a movement that recognizes healthy ecosystems need healthy democracies, and vice versa. The frogs – and democracy – need us to keep marching.”
