Celebrate Salamanders With Us
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of World Salamander Day, a new global awareness day dedicated to celebrating and protecting salamanders! Taking place annually on March 28, World Salamander Day joins our growing calendar of amphibian awareness initiatives alongside World Frog Day (March 20) and Save The Frogs Day (April 28).

Why Salamanders Need Our Attention
Salamanders are among the most threatened groups of animals on Earth (~45% of species at risk of extinction). These remarkable amphibians play crucial roles as predators and prey in ecosystems worldwide, yet they face severe threats from habitat loss, disease, pollution, and climate change. Despite their ecological importance, salamanders receive far less public attention than their anuran cousins.
World Salamander Day aims to change that by raising awareness, inspiring conservation action, and celebrating the incredible diversity of these often-overlooked amphibians.

Why March 28?
The timing is perfect! Late March marks the peak of salamander migration season across much of North America and Europe. This is when spotted salamanders, marbled salamanders, and many other species emerge from their winter retreats to travel – sometimes hundreds of yards – to breeding pools. Communities across the world organize “salamander brigades” to help these migrating amphibians safely cross roads during this critical time.
March 28 also creates a powerful week-long celebration when combined with World Frog Day on March 20th, highlighting the full diversity of amphibian life. And it’s an easy date to remember, coming exactly a month prior to Save The Frogs Day (April 28th Every Year).

They are known for being incredibly toxic and being in an evolutionary arms race with garter snakes, which have evolved the ability to digest the toxin.”
