The Inaugural Save The Frogs Day Flyer Contest

28 Flyers. 14 Countries.
One Mission.

In April 2026, designers around the world picked up their pens, brushes, and tablets to help us promote the 18th Annual Save The Frogs Day. The result was something extraordinary: a global outpouring of creativity in service of amphibians.

Entries arrived from designers in Australia, Bangladesh, Burundi, Costa Rica, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Germany, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Every flyer was created by a real human being using real creative tools, and every flyer became a small act of advocacy for amphibians somewhere in the world.

The Grand Prize Winner and our five Honorable Mentions are featured below, followed by the global gallery of all entries.

Grand Prize Winner — $100 USD

Nick Gustafson

United States

Why He Won

Nick’s vibrant, joy-filled frog became the cover image of our Save The Frogs Day Instagram carousel — a post that reached over 110,000 people, generated nearly 4,000 likes, and was shared more than 2,700 times. His painting captures what the contest was meant to celebrate: amphibian conservation as something worth smiling about. The peace-sign-flashing frog is joyful and unmistakably the work of a designer who has been creating frog art for 15+ years.

In Nick’s Words

I love frogs and creating frog art and doing frog photography and saving the frogs!

How It Was Made

Hand painted in acrylic, then edited in Procreate for iPad.

About Nick

Based out of Oregon, Nick was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2014 SAVE THE FROGS! Art Contest and has created dozens of frog-themed images seen across the savethefrogs.com website and featured on SAVE THE FROGS! shirts. Find more of his work at @artofnickgustafson on Threads.

Why It Stood Out

Robert’s flyer brings the lush biodiversity of Costa Rica into focus, leveraging his own frog photography to create something authentically rooted in place. The visual identity is unmistakably tropical and Costa Rican, and the design work clean and professional.

In Robert’s Words

Living in Costa Rica, I’ve had the opportunity to see many different species of frogs, and have seen firsthand how critical it is to SAVE THE FROGS! They may be small, but frogs play a huge role in the ecosystem of Costa Rica!

Rimon Islam

Bangladesh

Why It Stood Out

Rimon’s flyer demonstrates the power of original photography paired with thoughtful design. By using his own image of a frog feeding on insects, he turned his flyer into both a piece of design and a small ecological lesson — showing rather than telling why frogs matter. His use of SAVE THE FROGS! colors and font honored our branding and added a nice touch to it all.

In Rimon’s Words

Frogs are the silent protectors of our environment. They control insects, which is beneficial for agriculture and helps maintain our food security. I am a student from Bangladesh and I am passionate about animal welfare and environmental conservation. Through this flyer, I wanted to raise awareness and inspire people to take action to protect frogs and their habitats.

How It Was Made

Adobe Photoshop, with original photography taken by Rimon himself. Color theme of green and orange, large clear typography for quick legibility, natural elements in the corners. Designed in A4 format and exported as JPG.

Gaurab Khadka

Nepal

Why It Stood Out

Gaurab’s flyer makes a clear, evidence-based case for frog conservation rooted in ecological science. His design centers on the message that every organism plays a role in keeping ecosystems — and humans — alive.

In Gaurab’s Words

Frogs play a vital role in ecosystems by controlling insect populations and serving as food for other animals, while also acting as sensitive indicators of environmental health. Every organism in this world has a role in making sure human beings survive.

Designed in Canva.

Karen Backhouse

United Kingdom

Why It Stood Out

Karen’s flyer juxtaposes the warmth of hand-drawn illustration with clean digital layout — a combination that feels distinctively personal in an era of templated design. The collaboration with her husband Robin’s nature photography adds a layer of authenticity that no stock library could provide, and continues a family tradition of contributing to SAVE THE FROGS! creative work.

In Karen’s Words

I have worked with SAVE THE FROGS! before with graphic design work, including creating a compilation of students’ work from India.

How It Was Made

Frogs hand-drawn with coloured biro pens, based on photographs by Robin James Nature Photography. The flyer was assembled in Canva.

Cool Frog Fact

Karen’s husband, Robin Backhouse, was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2023 SAVE THE FROGS! Photo Contest and also took the Grand Prize for best photo in the 2026 Save The Frogs Day Photo Contest!

Honorable Mention

Lindsey Levine

United States

Why It Stood Out

Lindsey’s mixed-media flyer brings a working researcher’s eye to a working researcher’s subject — a Pristimantis species she and her team encountered on a recent research expedition to Costa Rica. The watercolor, acrylic, and ink combine to give the work a textural depth that digital design rarely achieves, and the result is both aesthetically pleasing and emotionally rich.

In Lindsey’s Words

Herpetofauna are some of the most misunderstood and threatened fauna in the world, and I am excited to do my part to SAVE THE FROGS!

How It Was Made

Mixed media — watercolor, acrylic, and ink. Based on a Pristimantis species observed during a recent research expedition to Costa Rica.

About Lindsey

Lindsey is an amphibian conservation researcher, artist, educator, and avid frog lover. She is currently studying invasive frogs in Honduras, and is an enthusiastic supporter of SAVE THE FROGS! She made this flyer to help spread the word about Save The Frogs Day in her community, with hopefully far-reaching impact.

Designer Statements

Voices from the Contest

The flyers tell one story. The designers behind them tell another. These are some of the voices that moved us most — from students planning conservation campaigns in Nepal to a 73-year-old in Germany who helps frogs cross the road.

Frogs are not just ordinary animals. They play a very important role in maintaining the balance of our environment. I want to raise awareness in a simple but impactful way, encouraging people to see frogs not as small, ordinary creatures, but as an essential part of our natural world that requires protection.

— Utsab Rayamajhi Chhetri, forestry student, Nepal

I titled my flyer ‘Protecting the Invisibles.’ My objective is to use visual and scientific communication to educate my community and give a voice to the amphibians that face silent threats in our ecosystems. I support SAVE THE FROGS! because I share its mission: transforming academic knowledge into direct, global conservation action.

— Leandro Espin, biology student & founder of the Student Society of Herpetology, Universidad Central del Ecuador

I am 73 and very connected to nature. I have a garden with frogs, and I love them — even their songs. I gladly help frogs across the road and back into the green. I believe biodiversity must be protected. Actions for frogs are very important to me.

— Anita Stückrath, Germany

I have a special inclination to amphibians and started my research career with the first land vertebrates. I worked on frogs of the eastern Himalayas and the Himalayan Crocodile Salamander in the Darjeeling Himalayas. In 2019, I registered SAVE THE FROGS! India as a trust, and since then I have never missed one Save The Frogs Day celebration to spread the words of awareness.

— Sarbani Nag, President, SAVE THE FROGS! India

Frogs are fascinating: cute with their big eyes and awkward jumps, they sing soothing concerts in the evening near the ponds. They have existed for more than 250 million years. Their permeable skin makes them very sensitive to pollution and climate change. If frogs decline, it is often an alarm signal for the entire ecosystem — and for us.

— MAMBO WABENGA Espoir, Burundi

I am deeply interested in amphibian conservation and environmental awareness. While organizing Save The Frogs Day in Chakwal, I designed this flyer to reflect both the beauty of nature and the threats frogs face today. I included the Indian bullfrog to represent local biodiversity and connect the message to our region.

— Unza Waqar, Save The Frogs Day organizer, Chakwal, Pakistan

I have loved frogs since my childhood, when I used to see them everywhere in my hometown. Their sound and presence was the natural part of my life. But now their populations are declining rapidly at an alarming rate, and that change really concerns me. I will use this opportunity to conduct an awareness campaign in Pokhara valley, Nepal. The main problem is that students don’t have knowledge about frogs. They are the future conservationists, and I believe by educating them early, we can build a generation that understands, protects, and coexists with nature.

— Utsab Rayamajhi, Nepal

I love you guys so much! Thank you for saving my favorite things! On bugbelly.com I have dozens and dozens of frog crafts aiming to raise awareness and love of frogs and amphibians worldwide. I’ve been a passionate follower of SAVE THE FROGS! and took part in one of the Save The Frogs Day events when I read from my Bug Belly books.

— Paul Morton, Bug Belly Books, United Kingdom

If I win, I would be honored to contribute to global awareness for amphibian conservation. As an African researcher, I hope to highlight the importance of conserving amphibians in tropical regions rich in biodiversity. Protecting frogs also means protecting our planet and our future.

— Bienvenu Mwale wa Kila, Democratic Republic of the Congo
