And Now, The Winning Artwork!
Grand Prize Winner:
Jiwoo Yoon, South Korea
Seoul Foreign School
The contest phrase “Save The Frogs!” reminded me of several frog habitats getting destroyed due to deforestation, leading to many endangered frog species. So, I decided to use this concept and put it on paper using watercolor and color pencils. I used different frog species seemingly having left their homes due to its destruction. Through my work, I aimed to communicate the current state of frog habitats and why we need to take action regarding these environmental issues. As for the prize money, I’d like to donate it back to the SAVE THE FROGS! organization under my name.

“Thank you for hosting this competition. It is a WONDERFUL way to encourage all types of learners to increase their knowledge about the importance of amphibians.”
– Najdah J. McCoy, Science Department Chair, Silver Trail Middle School, Pembroke Pines, Florida

“I am a Colombian biologist interested in learning about animal behavior in amphibians and their cognitive capacity, especially frogs! These organisms are undoubtedly exceptional! One of the behaviors that most strikes me is the parental care that many species of frogs exhibit, which can be as elaborate as feeding their tadpoles with unfertilized eggs. For this reason I was inspired by a male carrying tadpoles.”
– Maribel Rojas Montoya

“Joining the SAVE THE FROGS! art campaign was eye-opening for me. I never realized how they help control insect populations and keep the environment balanced. Drawing pictures of frogs made me realize how fragile their habitats are and how pollution and habitat loss endanger them and in turn affect the whole ecosystem. But it was also inspiring because my drawings could spread awareness and maybe make a difference. I started seeing the world a bit differently and understanding that even small actions – like asking my dad to put in nature friendlier versions of pesticides in our lawn and garden – make a big difference.”

A Message From China
“Hello, I have a small art studio and came across your painting activity by chance on the internet. After searching your website, I was impressed by the rich content available. I think what you do is very meaningful, and it’s not easy to persist in such endeavors. I brought 7 children to participate in your activity, and one received an honorary award, while the others did not make it. But I still think their works are all excellent! Through this painting activity, we learned more about various types of frogs on Earth, as well as the relationship between humans and frogs, and humans and nature. We also realized that we are increasingly less likely to frogs in our daily lives. Next year, I will bring my students to participate in your activity again because I think it’s very meaningful. For young students this will plant the seeds of protecting animals and loving the environment in their hearts. I also hope they can achieve good results next year. Wishing you all best.”

A Message From Turkey
“Dear Kerry,
The certificate you prepared for each of your students brought us immense joy. We are a private school located in Antalya, Turkey, known as TED College. Our school holds a unique place in history, as it was established by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Turkey. Operating since 1924, we are proud to be part of an institution with such a rich legacy.
After reviewing the work you have done, we must say that we deeply admire your institution. To support your efforts, we have prepared many of our 1st to 10th-grade students for this year’s competition. As you know, we submitted our entries by sending photographs of the students’ artworks. Therefore, the original pieces are still with us.
After a department-wide discussion, we decided to exhibit these works, as they turned out beautifully. We plan to hold this exhibition on April 28th, Save The Frogs Day, a meaningful occasion. We would also love to share photos of the exhibition, its opening, and the event participation with you.
Warm regards,
Gül Banu Özsoy, Art Teacher”
