“I am shocked at the actual amount of damage bullfrogs are doing to not only the ecosystem but also to the California taxpayers who hold the burden of supporting the bullfrog importation industry.”

Bullfrog Action Group Meeting
December 8th, 2023
The SAVE THE FROGS! Bullfrog Action Group met on December 8th, 2023 to discuss the upcoming meeting of the California Fish & Game Commission (FGC) and possible actions related to controlling non-native American Bullfrogs. Attendees included biologists, researchers, and advocates from various organizations involved with bullfrog issues in California.
Key takeaways are that the FGC seems supportive of banning bullfrog imports and sales, so we should be sure to let them know that we agree with and encourage those actions. Members of the public will have one to three minutes to speak at the meeting (be concise!). Please speak, and be sure to introduce yourself and your organization (if you represent an organization); mention if you are a California resident; and ideally request the FGC to implement a ban on bullfrog imports and sales.
You can read SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger’s written comment to the FGC here (submitted December 8th, 2023).
At future meetings we plan to focus on improved enforcement of existing regulations. Stay in touch with other members of the Bullfrog Action Group by joining the SAVE THE FROGS! Discord Community and posting in the #bullfrog-action channel.
Let’s keep up the momentum and continue to support the ban on the importation and sale of bullfrogs in California. Your participation and written comments are highly appreciated. Thank you for your dedication and continued support!

Millions Of American Bullfrogs Are Entering California Every Year!
SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger discusses the alarming influx of non-native American Bullfrogs into California, at the May 17th, 2023 meeting of the California Fish & Game Commission’s (FGC) Wildlife Resources Committee (WRC).
He clarifies the timeline of events that led to the current meeting, emphasizing that the importation of approximately 12 million bullfrogs into the state, which began over six years ago when a petition to restrict their entry was denied. He questions the reasoning for the state’s failure to add American Bullfrogs to the restricted species list, and introduces the Bullfrog Action Group, an initiative aimed at creating policy changes to protect California’s native amphibians.
