Million Frog March – Organize An Event In Your City

Can’t make it to Washington DC for the main event? Host your own Million Frog March event and bring the movement to your community!

On November 15th, 2025, thousands will gather at the Lincoln Memorial and in cities worldwide to defend democracy, freedom of speech, peace, amphibian conservation, and environmental protection. Join the movement by organizing a satellite event in your area. Whether you’re planning an event for 10 people or 1,000, your grassroots action matters.

November 15, 2025 — Make Your Voice Heard!

Why Organize An Event?

Frogs have become an unexpected symbol of peaceful resistance. These remarkable amphibians represent something profound: the interconnection between environmental health and democratic freedom. When you organize a Million Frog March event, you’re:

  • Amplifying our message across the globe
  • Building community with local activists and environmentalists
  • Taking direct action for democracy and amphibian conservation
  • Proving that change starts locally — we don’t need permission to organize, just commitment

What Is An Independent Event?

An event organized by you and your community is an independent, locally-organized gathering in solidarity with the Million Frog March. You lead. You decide. You’re organizing your own event inspired by the Million Frog March — independently organized, but a powerful expression of the same values.

Key point: This is YOUR event. SAVE THE FROGS! supports you, but we’re not running your event. You are.

What We Provide

You’ll Get:

  • A listing on our website connecting your event to a global audience
  • Organizing resources such as the Million Frog March Volunteer Action Plan, messaging guidance, and promotional materials
  • Downloadable graphics, social media templates, and suggested language
  • A community of fellow organizers to connect with and learn from
  • Answers to general organizing and movement questions

What We Don’t Provide:

  • Legal advice specific to your location
  • On-site management or supervision
  • Permits or permission letters
  • Insurance coverage
  • Financial support or funding
  • Liability coverage for your event

Your Responsibilities

By registering an event, you acknowledge that you are organizing independently and taking full responsibility for your event. Here’s what that means:

Legal & Logistical Requirements

Permits & Permissions

  • Research what permits or permissions are required in your jurisdiction (many places require permits for public gatherings)
  • Apply for necessary permits well in advance (typically 2-4 weeks minimum)
  • Obtain permission if using private property
  • Never proceed if permits are required but unobtained

Local Laws & Regulations

  • Ensure your event complies with all local, state, and federal laws
  • Understand local rules about public assembly, noise, signs, and demonstrations
  • Respect any restrictions on public property use
  • Comply with any applicable public health regulations

Insurance

  • Determine whether event insurance is required or advisable in your area
  • Consult with an insurance agent if your event is large or your venue requires it
  • SAVE THE FROGS! does not provide insurance for satellite events

Participant Safety

  • Plan for participant safety and well-being
  • Have a clear plan for emergencies (medical, weather, security)
  • Consider having first aid supplies available
  • Communicate safety guidelines to participants
  • Be prepared to cancel or modify if conditions become unsafe

Risk Assessment

  • Assess potential risks specific to your event and location
  • Have contingency plans for weather, low turnout, or other issues
  • Keep attendance reasonable for your experience level
  • Know when to ask for help or advice from local authorities

Communications & Transparency

When promoting your event, always make clear that:

  • Your event is independently organized
  • SAVE THE FROGS! is not organizing or sponsoring your specific event
  • Participants should contact you directly with event-specific questions

Suggested language for your materials:

  • “Join us for an independent, locally-organized Million Frog March event in [CITY]”
  • “This event is organized by local volunteers in solidarity with the Million Frog March”
  • “For event-specific questions, contact [YOUR CONTACT INFO]”

Getting Started: Steps To Organize Your Event

  1. Understand Your Local Requirements:
Contact your city or county government office to learn about permit requirements for your ideal event location. Consult with a lawyer if you have questions about your legal obligations. Identify any permits, insurance, or permissions you’ll need.
  2. Register Your Event:
Complete our Satellite Event Registration Form. Provide basic details: location, date/time, expected attendance, organizer contact info. Agree to our independent organizer terms.
  3. Plan Your Event:
Start small if this is your first time organizing. Consider partnering with experienced organizers in your community. Secure your venue and permits. Create a safety and emergency plan.
  4. Promote Your Event:
Use our promotional materials and graphics. Post on social media with your event details. Make sure people know how to contact YOU with questions. Read the Million Frog March Volunteer Action Plan for lots of tips and ideas.
  5. Execute & Document:
Host your joyful, peaceful Million Frog March event. Take photos and videos. Document your impact. Share on social, on your website, in your electronic newsletter.
  6. Share Your Story:
Submit a brief event report to march@savethefrogs.org. Tell us how many people attended, what you learned, and your impact.

Recommended Best Practices

  • Start small if this is your first time organizing
  • Over-communicate with participants about event details and safety
  • Have a backup plan for weather or other contingencies
  • Document everything with photos and videos
  • Partner with others — reach out to local environmental or political groups
  • Follow our Code of Conduct — keep the Million Frog March peaceful, respectful, and family-friendly

Million Frog March Code of Conduct

All events must follow our commitment to peaceful activism:

  • Nonviolence: No violence or property damage of any kind
  • Respect: Treat all people with dignity, including those who disagree
  • De-escalation: If tensions arise, step back and diffuse peacefully
  • Family-Friendly: Keep language and signage appropriate for all ages
  • Safety First: Follow organizer instructions and support safety observers
  • Joyful Resistance: Creative, upbeat activism is powerful activism
  • Document Everything: Take photos/videos for transparency and safety

Anyone who violates these principles may be asked to leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. You don’t need permission—only responsibility. That’s the beauty of grassroots organizing. Organize your event, follow local laws, and register with us so we can list your event and communicate with you before and after.

We have a thorough page dedicated to organizing Save The Frogs Day events. Different event, but same concept. Also see the Million Frog March Volunteer Action Plan.

We encourage you to consult a local attorney or your city government about permit requirements and legal obligations in your jurisdiction. SAVE THE FROGS! cannot provide legal advice.

We can point you in the right direction, but permit applications are between you and your local government. Contact your city/county office directly.

You’re responsible for managing your event. Have an emergency plan in place. If something does go wrong, it’s your event, so it’s your responsibility to handle it. This is why having a safety plan and perhaps liability insurance is important.

Absolutely. You’re the organizer—you make the call. Communicate quickly with participants if you need to reschedule or cancel.

Once registered, your event will likely get listed on our website. But you should promote your event through social media, local community boards, and organizations in your area, word of mouth, inviting friends and colleagues, etc.

Having the necessary funds is important! If you plan to seek financial assistance, make clear to your potential donors whether their donation is for your independent event, or for SAVE THE FROGS!. Clarity is key. Donations to SAVE THE FROGS! are appreciated and can be sent through our donation page.

There is never enough time to do everything we’d like to do! But there IS enough time to organize an impactful, successful event that raises awareness for endangered amphibians and the threats to our freedoms. The moment calls for it, and the future of the frogs and of our right to speak out for them is at stake. So let’s take action and make the most of the time we have.
