“The University of Michigan Herpetology Club put on its third annual Save the Frogs Day celebration this year. On Thursday 4/28, we tabled in the School of Natural Resources and Environment along with Ann Arbor Natural Area Preservation (which has lots of herp-related monitoring programs). We sold frog-themed baked goods to raise funds for Save the Frogs.
On Sunday 5/1, we hosted an event in the UM Museum of Natural History, where we had lots of games, crafts, and activities for visitors of all ages. The kids really enjoyed our hands-on frog pond, which included a frog life cycle model. The pond was also filled with large tapioca pearls to simulate amphibian eggs. The kids who visited our table loved to touch the squishy “eggs.” We talked to participants about the differences between shelled eggs (like bird eggs) and unshelled eggs, and how the delicate amphibian lifecycle contributes to their sensitivity.” – University of Michigan Herpetology Club
