Wanted: Frog-Friendly Technologists
Do you have a passion for technology and a desire to contribute your expertise to a meaningful cause? SAVE THE FROGS! is seeking a volunteer Technology and Systems Specialist to assist with setting up and managing technical infrastructure that supports our amphibian conservation efforts. This role is perfect for someone with a diverse skill set in technology who can tackle complex tasks and help us build efficient, scalable, and reliable systems.
The ideal candidate is experienced with server configuration, self-hosting, and open-source technologies. You should be comfortable with command-line interfaces, networking tools, and cloud hosting platforms, and have a knack for troubleshooting and creative problem-solving.
In this position, you will focus on the technical setup and maintenance of self-hosted, open-source software solutions on home-based or cloud servers.
This includes working with tools like Docker Compose to configure environments for software such as n8n (for workflow automation), Baserow (an Airtable alternative), and Immich (photo galleries).
Your responsibilities may include:
– Setting up and managing network-attached storage (NAS) systems;
– Implementing RAID configurations for data redundancy and performance;
– Ensuring secure and efficient backups using tools like Restic or Borg.
– Configuring the open-source software for use.
The goal is to establish the technical foundation so that the team can use these tools effectively. You don’t need to be familiar with the open-source software (though that would be a bonus!), just how to configure it for use.
Whether you’re an experienced technologist or someone looking to contribute your skills to a great cause, your efforts will directly enhance the capabilities of our organization. By joining us, you’ll be making a tangible impact on the systems that support amphibian conservation worldwide.
If you are interested, please complete our Volunteer Application From, and be sure to describe your experience and how you can help.

We look forward to saving the frogs with you through better technology!
