Introduction
In 2024, SAVE THE FROGS! India launched an internship program, in partnership with the Department of Zoology at Asutosh College in Kolkata. Eleven interns took part, with a goal of spreading amphibian awareness and education to the local community.
The interns launched an essay competition called “Froggy Fables”, and created a flyer that they used to actively promote the event across various platforms, sparking participation from more than 50 institutions in the USA, India and Switzerland, including universities, schools, and environmental organizations.
The program encouraged interns to reach out to institutions and as a result, we received insightful essays that celebrated frogs as essential guardians of wetlands, highlighting their unique adaptations to diverse ecosystems. These efforts aimed to enhance understanding of the critical role amphibians play in maintaining environmental health, particularly in wetland ecosystems.
Through this initiative, students in West Bengal and beyond became inspired to learn about amphibians and the importance of protecting them.
As a result, the SAVE THE FROGS! India Essay Contest received entries showcasing the students’ newfound knowledge and commitment to conservation. Participants receive e-certificates for participation. Participants whose entries are selected to be published will receive e-certificate of excellence and their “Froggy Fables” essays will be available for public viewing, further amplifying the program’s impact and spreading awareness about the importance of amphibian conservation.
