Saving Bangladesh’s Amphibians
Save The Frogs Day is a unique type of event which is celebrated every year throughout the world including Bangladesh. Different universities, NGOs, clubs organize colorful and interactive events and observe the day in Bangladesh. The Department of Zoology, University of Dhaka has celebrated Save The Frogs Day both physically and virtually. This year, we want to mark this day involving Dhaka University Nature Conservation Club (DUNCC) and Zoological Society of Bangladesh (ZSB) at the Department of Zoology. The program will include a series of events including a frog rally, photographic exhibition and competition, frog identification competition, quiz competition, drawing competition, frog chorus competition, poster presentation and oral presentation. The program will began with the rally following an inaugural session, and will end with an award giving ceremony. The schedule of the program is as follows:
1. Frog rally- 9:30 to 10:00 am
2. Inaugural session- message of Founder of SAVE THE FROGS! Dr. Kerry Kriger; Keynote speech by Professor Dr. Mohammad Firoj Jaman on “Frog Conservation in Urban area: Challenges and Perspectives”- 10:00 to 10:20 am
3. Guest speech- 10:20 to 11:15 am
4. Daylong photograph and poster presentation
5. Frog chorus competition- 11:30 to 12:30.
6. Frog identification competition- 2:00 to 2:30 pm.
7. Invited oral presentation- 2:30 to 3:15pm.
8. Award giving ceremony with acknowledgement.
This event has been funded with a $350 Save The Frogs Day Grant from SAVE THE FROGS!.
More than 150 participants from the department along with students from other universities and the affiliated college are expected to be present. The event is also expected to be covered by popular print and electronic media along with the engagement of social media platform. The celebration of this day in Bangladesh made many frog enthusiasts, researchers, educators and we hope the continuation will further heighten the process.
