Protests, Marches, Demonstrations & Rallies

SAVE THE FROGS! has a long history of taking to the streets to advocate for amphibians, environmental protection, and the democratic institutions that make conservation possible. From calling for pesticide bans at the EPA to defending critical wetland habitats to connecting frog conservation with democratic values, our protests demonstrate that peaceful, public advocacy creates real change. Below are highlights from our most significant demonstrations over the years.

Million Frog March

The Million Frog March connects environmental protection with democratic values through peaceful demonstration. The inaugural Million Frog March on November 15, 2025 drew 65 participants to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. Featuring speeches, music, poetry, and creative signage, the family-friendly event educated hundreds of tourists about the inseparable connection between healthy ecosystems and healthy democracies. Our supporters in Pakistan held satellite events. Check out the Million Frog March page to learn about upcoming marches…or organize a Million Frog March in YOUR town!

Atrazine Rally In Washington DC

On April 29th, 2011 SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger was joined by pesticide expert Dr. Tyrone Hayes and 40 frog enthusiasts for a protest outside the US Environmental Protection Agency headquarters in Washington DC to call for a federal ban on the use and production of Atrazine, a harmful herbicide that causes hermaphroditism in male frogs.

Sharp Park Wetlands

The Sharp Park Wetlands are home to the endangered California Red-Legged Frog and San Francisco garter snake, as well as numerous bird species, but are threatened by the City of San Francisco’s mis-management of the land, which they use as a golf course. SAVE THE FROGS! has held a Drumming For The Frogs protest at the course, and inspired a protest at City Hall in San Francisco on Save The Frogs Day in 2011.

Frog Legs Protests

In 2010 and 2011 SAVE THE FROGS! supporters held various protests at Nathan’s Famous and Uncle Julio’s (Rio Grande) restaurants when the owners refused to stop selling frog legs. Protests took place in VA, MD, TX, FL and NY.
